After a tumultuous year for the club that saw highs – the race series, the monthly rides, Auckland’s first inner city MTB trails at Arch Hill – and lows – struggling with a lack of volunteers, parting ways with the Jafakids – we’re now looking foward to a busy and exciting 2011. With an enthusiastic 10-strong committee, a plethora of ideas and initiatives on the go, and a healthy number of new memberships already, the outlook for the Auckland MTB Club is looking good.
First on the agenda is the 2011 club ride schedule. Feedback from our recent survey showed that a large number of you wanted the club to offer more social and recreational riding. We’ve spent a couple of months beavering away and are really excited to announce (… drum roll please! …) the details of our club rides schedule for 2011:
Mark & Kelly will be continuing their popular Saturday rides at Woodhill.
The monthly away rides we introduced last year have proved popular so we’ve put together another schedule of weekend rides, on some of the country’s sweetest singletrack.
New for this year is a fortnightly Sunday-morning ride. We’ve put together a list of our favourite Auckland venues, drawing on the collective local knowledge of the club, trying to offer a bit of something for everyone, and hopefully letting you ride somewhere new and maybe a bit different!
If you’re keen to venture further afield than Woodhill but aren’t keen on getting lost exploring at Riverhead or Hunua, then these will be the rides for you. The first ride is on Sunday 16th January at Hunua. Kris Bartley, who runs our Hunua Working Bees, will be showing us round his handywork, and we’ll be putting on some post-ride refreshments to celebrate.
A big part of being in a club like ours is getting out and riding together, being part of the club community, getting involved, and having an awesome time doing it. We really hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you on the trails!
