Ride with your mates! Cruise up, race down!
It’s back! Once again we’re running our Enduro from Barlow Road in Riverhead Forest. This is a super-fun event, in a format that best captures the way most of us ride. And as much fun as we had in the mud last year, we’re hoping for a dry course this year!
Many thanks to our event sponsors without whom none of this would happen:
- Saint Cycles – for providing heaps of spot prizes and an on-site mechanic (bring cash)
- Hallertau Brewbar & Restaurant – for providing post-race beers and prizes
Check out the action from last year thanks to Airtime NZ :
What is Enduro?
You race over several, predominantly downhill, timed stages and the rider with the fastest combined stage time wins. A combination of technical skills and fitness are key to a good result meaning it’s not necessarily the XC whippets or the DH pinners who win, but the best all-rounders.
You ride between stages at your own pace ,so you can ride with your mates and go as fast or slow as you wish. You’ll have a four hours to complete all the stages, upon finishing you’ll receive a cold beer and a printout with your stage times, so you can compare times with your buddies immediately.
Basically, it’s a lot like what we all do every weekend – go for an epic ride with our mates – except there’s a stopwatch running on the downhills!
Race Day
Sunday 21st February
- Registration is from 8:30am-9:30am.
- Race briefing will be at 9:40am.
- Race starts at 10am and everyone should be finished by approximately 2:30pm.
The event village will be at the Motocross Club at the Barlow Rd entrance to Riverhead forest, off Ararimu Valley Road (directions here).
Stages
All stages should be ridden in order. This way no one gets lost and we can move our lovely marshals from the stages once you’ve all been through. You can do multiple runs over a stage if you want to. Stages may change slightly on the day depending on conditions. You’ll be given a map when you register and the course will be marked.
Stage 1: Barlow Return – nice flowy warm-up stage
Stage 2: WCRC’s Finest – off camber, loose and loamy, the potential to go really fast
Stage 3: Baconator – enjoy the start, hope your brakes are in good nick
Stage 4: Barlow Down – rough and rooty, straight down!
Stage 5: Fun Down – does exactly what it says on the tin
Stage 6: Tjebes DH – bit of a pedal, into a twisty, flowy down, finishing with another pedal
Stage 7: Richie’s into Gums – another classic, hopefully the undergrowth’s been trimmed…
Stage 8: Nature Trail – the only way to finish. watch out for the hecklers
