Ride with your mates! Cruise up, race down!
We’re proud to bring you Auckland’s first entirely pedal-powered enduro event on Sunday April 19th at Riverhead Forest.
Many thanks to our event sponsors without whom none of this would happen:
- Saint Cycles – for providing heaps of spot prizes and an on-site mechanic (bring cash)
- Hallertau Brewbar & Restaurant – for providing post-race beers and prizes
- Fat Tyre Adventures – for supplying a free heli-biking trip as a spot prize
What is Enduro?
Only the biggest growing form of MTB racing in the world right now! You race over several predominantly downhill stages and the rider with the fastest combined stage time wins. A combination of technical skills and fitness are key. In between stages you’re not timed so you can ride with your mates and go as fast or slow as you wish. It’s much like what we all do every weekend, except there’s a stopwatch running on the downhills!
The Stages
We’ve planned EIGHT stages, all mainly downhill. Some are more technical than others, but it’s Riverhead so expect Intermediate+ level riding.
You have four hours from when you start to complete all the stages and get back to the finish line. Riders returning after the four hour mark will be penalised 6 seconds for every minute extra. All-up you’ll have done between 20 and 25kms by the time you cross the line and receive your complementary glass of delicious Hallertau beer.
Stage 1 – a nice little warmup. Watch out for the ruts! 0.8km, 37m descent.
Stage 2 – right from the top. Enjoy the view then hang on for the ride! 0.6km, 84m descent.
Stage 3 – the lung-buster! Starts out with a few drops and off-camber roots and ends up fast and flowy. 1.7km, 96m descent.
Stage 4 – Fun DH. Short, sharp technical descent which could catch a few people out. 0.3km, 35m descent.
Stage 5 – Richies into Gums. Classic techy Riverhead descent through beautiful native bush. 0.9km, 59m descent.
Stage 6 – Chuck’s Hill. The moto boys ride this up, we reckon it’s much more fun in the other direction. 0.8km, 58m descent.
Stage 7 – Creek DH. Roots, wet roots, off-camber roots, a few more roots and the odd fallen log. You can go fast down here, if you dare. 0.7km, 64m descent.
Stage 8 – yes, eight stages! We’re keeping this one a secret but fair to say we’ve saved the best till last! 🙂 0.6km, 62m descent.
