Queen Charlotte Track club ride – Nov 2010

19 – 21 November

To quote the Kennett brothers “This is the longest single track ride in NZ. Add to that the lovely coastal scenery, good cafes and accommodation stops along the way and a brilliant beach section at the end, and you have a recipe for one of the best weekend rides in NZ”

This is a must do ride on every mountain bikers list. The thinking is to do a 3 day trip as follows so as to cater for a range of riding abilities and fitness. May also look at a 2 day ride if there is enough interest.

Day 1:
Morning – Travel from Auckland to Picton
Afternoon – Water Taxi to Ships Cove and ride to Furneaux (approx 15km riding)
Stay at Ferneaux Lodge

Day 2:
Ride Ferneaux to Portage (approx 35 km)
Stay at Portage

Day 3:
Ride Portage to Anakiwa (approx 21km)and on to Picton (approx 20km) (also option of getting water taxi from Anakiwa if you want)
Arrive Picton early/mid afternoon, travel back to Auckland

– Costs for water taxi, bag transfers, and accommodation (bunk room/shared bathroom) approx $160. There are other options for more upmarket accommodation if you are happy to pay more.

– Travel costs based on flying to Blenheim and getting shuttle bus to Picton approx $300. Other options such as driving/flying to Wellington and getting flight or ferry to Picton are also available.

Not sure what numbers we are looking at yet – will depend on travel options and accommodation availability. Probably somewhere between 12 and 20. As I will have to pre-book and pay for the accommodation a deposit of about $100 per person will be required.

Please email Maurice Mills if you are interested – first in first served, so don’t leave it too late and miss out. The sooner we can confirm numbers the more chance of getting cheap flights, and accommodation books out real quickly.
