Six Teams, 12 Hours, 3 Podiums, 1 Moon – and a Tandem

2010 Moonride – Jafakids Results By Sadie

Weather held out despite an ugly weekend forecast and low cloud kept temperatures bearable.  The racing was steaming hot. JAFAKIDS represented the Club proudly with consistent lap times all round from the very young Diesel Powered Team to the very old JAFAKIDS Neo Parents and Coaches Team.

A first and two thirds for the crew (check out results on the Moonride website) to top off a great day of racing. Take note that some of these teams and young riders are racing in the Open Categories now and making Podiums.

We also kept a tally of the fastest lap times of riders in each team and it was impressive how close all these were. The highlight for me was the last lap cheering by all JAFAKIDS and Parents as the last riders were encouraged to squeeze out another lap within the 12 hours.Nail-biting excitement.

Cool to see the Downhill boys putting in a 24hr team (Always thought that those DHers were crazy but this confirms it!) Neat to see past JAFAKIDS rider Adam Riley back in the Moonride teams churning out fast laps.

Bring on the Day-Night Thriller!!

Also big congrats to an older Jafakid-at-heart… Jared Scollay (often out training with and training the Jafakids XC Race Squad) and his sister Freya – they competed in the new Mixed 24-Hour Tandem class – achieving first place on their Ellsworth tandem. They entered as two separate solo riders – they just happened to be on the same bike (an Ellsworth Tandem).  The front of the bike was Jared’s and the back was Freya’s.  They completed 50 laps (over 400km) so Freya would have won the female solo class and Jared would have come 3rd in the male – unfortunately there were some complaints so they created the 24 hour ‘solo tandem’ class for them to win instead.
And also, it was Jared’s fifth year in a row on the 24 hour podium!! Brilliant!!
